Haines is located in Southeast Alaska near the northern end of Lynn Canal.  Access from Juneau, AK is by a short commuter flight or a half day's ride on the Alaska Ferry.   Haines is also accessible by a short ferry ride from Skagway, AK, or a 5 hour drive from Whitehorse, Yukon.

Local author Heather Lende has popularized Life in Haines in her books, numerous national magazine articles and her website “A Short Tour of Haines”.

 

Haines was selected by Outdoor Magazine as one of its "Best American Dream Towns" in 2004.

Haines hosts the annual"Alaska Bald Eagle Festival" in November.  Starting in September through early December Haines welcomes over 3,500 Bald Eagles to the beautiful Chilkat River Valley.
